Andy Sima (he/him) grew up in the Chicago suburbs and has always been fascinated with the way that places shape the way we live and who we are. With a focus on writing that incorporates nature, climate change, and how people react to the unknown, he strives to make the world a better place by exploring both the darkest horrors of the modern world and the brightest possible futures that we can create together.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and Environmental Sustainability from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). During his time as a student, he won UIUC’s campus environmental writing contest with his essay “Burn Zone,” which went on to be republished in other university publications. Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s degree in Landscape Ecology from Stockholm University.
He has worked as a naturalist and historical interpreter, which led him both to prevent children from falling into a river at summer camp and to help people understand the complexities of nature and history. He has developed educational programs and interpretive signage that focuses on illustrating how the past is always with us and the ways that natural landscapes influence human development.
He is a lover of birds, maps, horror stories, video games, and a good pizza. He is sometimes credited as Andrew David Sima.
